A tale of the Tape: The Nutter vs. Pac Man

VS.

Over the last couple of weeks few athletes have the impact on their sports like Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy and Tennessee Titans defensive back PacMan Jones. I wanted to see who was hard-core, so I decided to run the tale of the tape on both of them. So here we go.

Nicknames

Jones: PacMan.

Bellamy: The Nutter with the Putter, Craig "The Baby Eater'' Bellamy, and Bells.

Advantage: Bellamy, its plain and simple he hits team mates with golf clubs and eats babies, need I say more.

The Early Years

Jones: an all-state running back in Georgia then went on to be a troublemaker at the University of West Virginia

Bellamy: Started at Norwich City and then just kept moving.

Advantage: PacMan, any one who can go from Georgia to West Virginia and not have a drinking problem is a hero of mine.

Professional issues

Jones: Drafted Sixth overall in the 2005 draft, then missed most of training camp because of a hold out.
Bellamy: When Newcastle tried to unload him to a Birmingham City he wrote Newcastle chairman Freddy Sheppard a text message that read: "I am Craig Bellamy and I don't sign for shit football clubs.'' Bellamy also got into a drunken text-messaging feud with former New Castle teammate Alan Shearer.
Advantage: Bellamy, any time you use a text messaging to tell you boss an employer to go to hell its a good thing. Can you image PacMan doing that to Jeff Fisher? That would be end of PacMan.

Legal Issues

Jones: Started in 2005 with a fight at a West Virginia nightclub, then In October 2005 got in trouble for not going to probation officer. Hey that is just when he was in college. The NFL that is a different story, he has been cited by police for no less then three different incidents, including the "Making it rain" incident during NBA All-Star weekend.
Bellamy: Craig and his wife's honeymoon was interrupted when Bellamy was due back in Cardiff to answer to Magistrates over his bail extension, following an alleged assault on a 19-year-old girl in a Cardiff nightclub in March 2006 in which he allegedly grabbed the girl's throat; he was later acquitted.
Advantage: Jones, for the simplest reason that he went to college with Chris Henry and the two of them both made it out alive.

Off the wall behavior

Jones: loves to make it rain.

Bellamy: used teammates John Arna Riise's leg as a driving range after he refused to sing a Robbie Williams song.

Advantage: Bellamy, for the only reason that both Bellamy and Riise scored in the Liverpool’s win at Barcelona in the Champions League.

Result

When you break this down, its easy to see that Bellamy is completely crazy and a bigger nut job then a person that makes it rain.

No Sizzling Bacon here

Move over Chad Johnson, T.O. and all other touchdown celebration kings. The real kings of the celebration dance live on the pitch.
Over the years soccer players have come up with some of the best celebration dances of all time.
From the Liverpool's Kop God Robbie Fowler snorting of the touchline, to Gazza and the dentist chair to Craig Bellamy madness at the Nou Camp last week.

Here is video of some of the best very goal celebration of all time

In all truth Fowler was robbed, his should have been number one.

You can choke your chicken but do not throw it

The fan base at Kansas State is classy. For years they have been smuggling live chickens into games against Kansas and then throwing them at the players of their hated rival. The chicken throwing was done to mock Kansas’s mascot, a Jayhawks.

During the game earlier this month, Wildcat fans throw chickens at the bench area.

Now that is all coming to end. Kansas State has said they will not put up with it anymore. And people thought that Bob Huggins was the only weird thing at KSU.

Money: Its gotta be the shoes

Mars Blackmon would be proud of Calvin Johnson. First Johnson goes to the NFL Combine and WOWs them during the interview process. Then he borrows someone else shoes and runs a 4.3 40-yard dash with another person shoes.
Johnson had a great career at Georgia Tech despite having one of the worst quarterbacks in college football history. During his career he had to deal with Reggie Ball as his quarterback at Georgia Tech. If he can over come these odds he should be an All Pro in a year. Hey Charlie Frye is a better quarterback at any level then ball and I think that I would take former Toms River South standout Victor Lau over Ball.

Tongue Tastey

This years Carling Cup Final, between Chelsea and the Arsenal U-20 side, might go down as one of the best ever. For the game and for one of the greatest injuries in sports history. John Terry swallowed his tongue. YES SWALLOWED HIS TONGUE. Terry was kicked in the head by a member of Arsenal during a goal box scramble. Terry was taken to the hospital and was later released. The game, which ended 2-1 Chelsea, also ended in a huge fight in injury time.

The Las Vegas Stars

With the NBA All Star game behind us, the idea of putting a team in Sin City is being discussed and I could not be happier. The idea of putting a team in Vegas could be comedy gold. Could you image Stephen Jackson in Vegas for home games, this could be a great idea?

Introducing your Las Vegas Stars:

The Starting Five
  • Point Guard: Jamal Tinsley (pictured): grew up in the ghetto and is always in trouble in both Canada and the United States.
  • Shooting Guard: Stephen Jackson: do I really need to stay anything. Please check out his My Space page.
  • Small Forward: Ron Artest: I really do not want to explain.
  • Power Forward: Eddie Griffin. Forward Seton Hall star would be great in Vegas with his drinking problem.
  • Center: Olden Polynice: He might be retired but there is always need for wife beaters on any team.

Bench

  • Richard Dumas, SG/SF: Retired, love the coke.
  • DeShawn Stevenson, SG: Statutory rape is always something that GMs should look at.
  • Qyntel Woods, SG: Dog fighting now that will fly in Vegas.
  • Tony Battie, PF: Beating up a police officer, I think that might be allowed in Vegas.

Here is a list of other players that a new Vegas team could also look at.

Coach Potato TV

Its late February and there is nothing is good on for die-hard football people, until this weekend. NFL fans rejoice, its combine time and thanks to the NFL Network, everyone can watch it. Since 1982, the combine has become something that people only heard about, but last year it all changed when the network took draft geeks inside the combine, now it has become a must watch event.

The network will show something like 27 live hours of draft prospects running in tight shorts and throwing in T-shirt, might sound gay, but it is not. During this weekend people will learn the joys of the passing tree, shuttle run, agility drills and eye/coordination drills.

Your Mom's Box: Playmaker Style

What a year for the Playmaker. Over Super Bowl week Irvin was elected to the Hall of Fame. Now ESPN and Irvin have decided to go their separate ways. According to some reports he will now do movies. Everyone who watches NFL Countdown is going to miss his bad suits and off the wall comments.

In honor of Irving not being with Countdown anymore here are a couple of videos, cause we all are going to miss the Playmaker.

Reggie Bush is bad luck

Wow Reggie Bush has had a crazy last six months. First reports came out that his family took special gifts while he was at USC. Then he got fined for talking smack to Brian Urlacher during the NFC championship game. Then on national signing day he was accused of having an illegal phone call with top prospect Joe McKnight.

Reports say it’s just a minor sprain, but somewhere you know Sean Payton is pulling his hair out.

What is this 1972?

All year Depaul has been going retro and it paid off last night. The underdog Blue Demons defeated the 14th ranked Marquette Warriors.
The best thing about this year for the Demons has been the great uniforms (pitcured) they have been wearing. The Uniforms are being worn to honor the late Coach Ray Meyer, who died last year. The only thing missing last night was some to sport a someone to sport a huge Afro.

A Tribute to the Real Number 7

While United sit top of the table and the soccer world continues to talk about the current wearer of the United's famous number 7 and the a past wearer of the famous number 7. Its time to remember the real number 7, Eric Cantona.

Canton and his popped up collar are the reason that I love the Red Devils.

Sure he made Ron Artest look like a choirboy and his classic response.

Can we stop slurping Kevin Durant

It’s not a secret, everyone who has watched college basketball this year knows how good this years freshman class is and in particular how good Kevin Durant is. So please stop telling me how good he is. While trying to kill time at work, I was looking around the internet for something to read and all over there were stories about the super star that turned down Carolina Blue for the Burnt Auburn of Texas and how good he is.

During my wasting of time here are some of the stories that I found:

It's never to early

The face of recruiting in the northeast appears to be changing. One look at the schools that top juniors in the northeast are interested in and you see a different school up there: Rutgers. The funny thing its not just prospects from New Jersey, but from all over the northeast.

Here are some sites that are following Will Hill (pictured) and the class of 2008:

Paging Mr. Blackwell

Watching Jay Wright coach his Villanova Wildcats against Seton Hall, you notice something was different. Watching John Calipari (pictured) coach his Memphis Tigers you noticed that something was also different.

All around the country coaches ditched their traditional expensive suits in exchange for polos, sweat suits and sneaks. Wright and Calipari, both know around the country for their great where decked out in sweat suits.

The change was for a good cause. Coaches around the country changes their attire to raise awareness for Coaches vs. Cancers' fight against cancer. In the 13 years since being founded in 1993, Coaches vs. Cancer has helped generate more than $23 million in direct support for the American Cancer Society.

First A.J., now Johnny Damon

Last year A.J. Pierzyanksi joined TNA and wrestled in a pay-per view. On Thursday night, I was watching TNA, like everyone does, and saw no one other then New York Yankees center fielder Johnny Damon swinging a chair. George is going to love seeing this. The once proud leader of the Red Sox nation is now doing wrestling events and its not even the WWE.

Pierzyanksi is involved in a feud with fellow World Series winner David Eckstein and a couple of other mid-carders. I have no idea what the feud is about nor do I really care. I really don't understand what Damon's role is either, but it’s supposed to be settled on Pay-Per-View Sunday night at TNA Against All Odds.

Josh McRoberts: Dookie V's Great White Hope

Two years ago all we heard about was how incoming freshman Josh McRoberts was going to join the likes of Jay Bilas, Christian Laettner, Cherokee Parks, and Sheldon Williams as great Duke big men. Now midway through is sophomore year, the player that everyone raved about coming out of Indiana is no where to be found.

So far this year he is averaging 12.9 points, 3.7 assist and 7.9 rebounds per game.

In his biggest game of the year against North Carolina McRoberts played like a kid in the fifth grade, three points are you kidding me. Looking back at class two years ago, you can say that maybe other members of his class have passed him by including: Tyler Hansborough, Brandan Rush, Monta Ellis, and Jon Brockman.

During the game last night Dookie V talked about Duke being a young team, they are but these are not guys that just came off of the street. Gerald Henderson was a five star recruit, so was Jason Zoubek, and the same for Jon Scheyer. Its not like they are not a talented team, may be the problem is that Coach K is not good at developing players.

Oh no I said something bad about Coach K, Dookie V. might show up at my door.

Today is a Sports Christmas and People are excited

Despite being the middle of the week, today might be one of the best sports day of the year. Look at what is going: National Signing Day for College Football, the first round of the annual war between North Carolina and Duke complete with Dookie V on the call, and for good measure there is the Spain and England friendly at Old Trafford.

Here are a couple of sites to keep track of the action

I've seen this show before

We all get it Sports Guy (pictured); you want the Celtics to loose the rest of their games so that they can have a shot at the 35-year old freshman Greg Oden or the Texas super freshman Kevin Durant. But please do all of your loyal readers a favor, let’s give it a rest. Back in November, you did a column entitled So long, Doc. In the column you talked about looking forward to getting either Oden or Durant. Now I look on ESPN.com and see another column about Oden or Durant wearing Celtic Green and the fun of rooting for you team to loose.
Please no more until at least the lottery show that is all I'm asking

Nice Injury Joe, ours are better

We always talk about great football injuries, but across the pond they have their fair share of great injuries.

And you thought that Eagles fans were bad

    • Booing Santa: Check
    • Throwing Snow Balls at the Dallas Cowboys: Check
    • Cheering that Michael Irvin is being carted off the field: Check
    • Having a jail in your Stadium: Check
    • Having a police officer killed during a game: never happened.

Friday’s during the derby game between Catania and Palermo a fan of one the teams threw a bomb into the car of an officer and killed him. Now the future of Italian soccer is up in the air as the season has been put on hold.

This latest incident comes as the country tries to get back on its feet. Last year the leagues greatest team Juventus was send down to the second division after a match fixing scandal. Then the country goes out and wins the World Cup. It has been a world wind 12 months for the Azzurri.

Cheese Doodles and General Hospital:The Stephen A. Smith Story

In honor of Stephen A. Smith's guest appearence on General Hospital yesterday , I think its time to go over the best Stephen A. Smith moments of the last couple of years. By the way, did anyone know that he started his college career at the Fashion Institute of Technology.?

After reviewing the facts, I think Time Magazine should have made Stephen A. Smith the Person of the Year. Just remember to "Holla at cha boy Stephen A."

The Super Bowl always produces good story lines and this year is no different. According to sites around the web, Donovan McNabb and Terrell Ownes had a little meeting at a local club. What is going to happen next hell freezing over.

Wow Donovan has had a really busy Super Bowl week first he answered all of the question about his future and now this. That is what you call a crazy week.

Was the transfer window even open

This Transfer window was full of rumor and little action. With the transfer window all closed, teams around the EPL are getting read for the stretch run. The window featured a couple of active teams including Liverpool and West Ham who both did their fair share of wheeling and dealing. Liverpool signed Argentine Javier Mascherano, while West Ham signed a bunch of people to help them stay out of the Championship. Both Chelski and Manchester United did not make a big signing. United only made one, but that might change the race for the championship. At the start of the month, United got Henrick Larsson (pictured during his days at Celtic FC) on loan until the end of the march. So far he has been a god sent, adding depth to the forward position and taking some of the stress of Rooney and Saha.

Stalking High School Seniors and searching for the next Ron Powlus

It's that time of year, when college football coaches around the country start to act like pedophiles. Somewhere Charlies Wies is in his over sized sweatshirt and sweatpants sneaking around a private high school in Chicago, while Nick Saban and his slick hair will be lurking around a high school in Alabama looking for the next program makes.

With a week to go before the National Signing Day, seniors that made verbal commitments are changing them and colleges are scrambling to replace them. For some programs; like the U and 'Bama, this is a make or break class for them. Just in case you need some foreshadowing, Jimmy Clausen is going to turn into the next Ron Powlus.
But for the most part all of the top prospects have signed.

Here are some sites that do a good job following the "recruiting fun"

Please Draft My Brother

Dear Mel Kiper Jr ,
As a representative of Adam Huba, I would like to alert you that he has made himself eligible for the NFL draft. Adam has been outstanding in back yard football games, and is hoping to make the next step in his career. He runs the 40 yard dash in 19. 9 seconds and is light on his feet.

"Jon Thomas has nothing on him," said his representatives. "With his slippers, no one is lighter on his feet. "

Huba's stats:

Height: 6-4
Weight: plus or minus a 30 pack: 287.
Reach: 6-4
Shuttle Run: chose not to complete.

Wonderlick test: Spelled name wrong and was too busy drinking Miller Lite; on par with Vince Young.

Now that is a punch in the stomach

In Bill Simmons world of dramatic losses, that was a stomach punch game. With a nine point lead over dreaded Chelski looking right at us, RVP scored and then TH14 scored at the end of the injury time to leave the Red Devils with nothing. So with less then half of the season to go United still have a six point lead, but they still have a trip to the bridge.

Corner Kicks: The Rocky Edition

Another round down, still many more to come including next Sunday game between United and the Gooners and the Saturday game between Chelski and Liverpool.
But things still are the same at the top of the table: United have a six point lead over Chelski. Even Rocky loves the EPL.
