Popeye Jones Part II

Most NBA Players sons become basketball players, but not Seth Jones. Jones the son of Popeye Jones is set to make a name for his himself:  Jones Is a Rising Hockey Star. Jones is set to the be the first African American to be chosen first overall in the NHL Draft, that is if we have one. Jones will be one of the cornerstones of the United States World Junior team that is set to play in Russia next week.

Manchester United Academy Still Tops in England

For all of the talk of Manchester United youth system not producing talent, that is simply not true, according to a report from Sporting Intelligence. According the report, United lead the Premier League in developing talent, yes more than famed youth policy at Arsenal.  According to the report, Barcelona No1 for producing players for clubs in Europe’s elite leagues. Now that is not surprising at all, considering the players that have come out of La Masia over the last decade.

Prospects Plus: A Failed Experiment

The book has finally been closed on one of the worst experiments in the history of the Washington Nationals. After five years in the farm system, Jack McGeary is gone from the system. The Boston Red Sox selected the Massachusetts native in the Rule 5 draft during the recently completed Winter Meeting in Nashville.

When McGeary was selected in the 2007 draft he was supposed to be the face of the franchise for years to come. When the Nationals drafted McGeary in 2007, they gave him a $1.7 million signing bonus to buy him out of commitment to Stanford. Little did we know that McGeary would be a huge flop.

I remember seeing him pitch when he was in the SAL and thought what A Waste of Money, So Far. His stuff was not overpowering, his command was not that good and he just seemed disinterested on the mount. During his time in the Nationals system, McGeary put together an 8-18 record with a 4.97 ERA. McGeary never made it pass A-Ball.

At first I was in total favor of the drafting him and paying him, little did I know that he would turn into an example of how much of a crap shoot the baseball draft really is.

Could the Premier League turn into the SPL

The Guardians' David Lacey makes that the case that the Premier League title race could turn into a two horse race between City and United or one long Manchester derby for year to come. If this happens it will basically turn into the Scottish Premier League, where Rangers and Celtic have dominated the league for the last two decades. Which will not be a good thing.

What is next for Rutgers?

Any Rutgers fan will tell you that Thursday night was tough. At the half I texted my wife and said "half way there'', little did I know that the second half would be full of heart break. Sure walking out of Rutgers Stadium was incredibly difficult on Thursday night and it took a couple of days to get over. Rather than rant about how terrible Gary Nova is or how limited the offensive plan was or how the defense was not good, I decided to take a couple a days and think about what happened and where they go from here.

First of all, Rutgers fans, like myself, have to realize what our pedigree is. Just a decade ago Rutgers went 1-11 and 0-7 in the Big East. During that season, the Scarlet Knights lost their opener to Villanova. If you would have told fans that a decade a later they would be dissappointed by sharing the Big East title, they would think that you had been on drugs. People have to understand that this program has little pedigree, and that it has has been developed since 2005, when they went 7-5. Let's face it we are not Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan, or even Georgia. We're Mississippi State, a nice program that in the right year can win a conference title but traditionally will go 7-5 and go to a mid-tier bowl.

People are going to scream about Nova, I thought he was good on Thursday night. Sure the last pass is something that will be talked about for years to come, but who knows who fault that was. Next year, Nova should have the best offense he has ever had. Two good running backs, a good group of receivers and solid offensive line.

Let's look at it like this, the Knights are heading into the best bowl game in the history of the program. They have a share of their first conference title.

The future looks bright and I mean that. On Thursday night, 44 recruits made their officials visit and most of them had Rutgers near the top of their list and that is the very important. The next couple of classes will know the Rutgers program as a winning program and have no idea how bad things where.

While it hurts, all Rutgers fans should know the best (and the Big Ten) is yet to come.

The football world was stunned yesterday when a Kansas City Chiefs linebacker killed his girlfriend and then took his own life. On Sunday morning, the New York Post and New York Daily News went with the same headline "SNAPPED". How many time have you seen the pair use the same headline.

The list shows the impact that new money is having on the game.

So Burma is one of the poorest countries in the world and they have the money to show Premier League. Around the world, £5.5bn was spent by channels to show the Premier League. Shows how incredible a TV asset it is and how popular it is, even if the quality of the league is down over the last couple of years.

The time has finally come

After more than two years of talk and worry about the conference affiliation of Rutgers, the end its here and its does have a happy ending. Rutgers is heading to the Big Ten in 2014.

It has been a long winding road for Rutgers. Talk that they might be left on the outside looking in is now over. The program has stability and the chance to stand side by side with some of the best programs in America.

Striking while the iron is hot

So this afternoon Rutgers announced that they are headed to Big 10 (more on that later today or tomorrow), a couple of hours later my season ticket renewal form for next season showed up in my inbox. It's the earliest I have received my renewal form, now that is what I call timing or should I say striking while the iron is hot.

So the Eagles season just keeps getting worst and yesterday was no different. The Philly Daily News sums it up best.
